Following on from ToonFest 2012 where over £5,800 was raised for local good causes, ToonFest is back for 2013 – bigger, bolder and louder than before. ToonFest is a celebration of the best Arbroath and Angus has to offer in and every penny raised by the event is given back to the community it came from. Arbroath Round Table are your event organisers and we have a good pedigree of events starting off with a simple beer festival, progressing into barn dances with Barnfest out in the country and now bringing it back into the ‘toon hence last years name change to ToonFest. It’s a great event and with a musical line up that includes Yasmin Worrall, The Bygones and The Declaration Band – you don’t want to miss it!!!

Youngster Kendra Wyllie takes aim at Arbroath Round Table Chairman, Malcolm Scott. RT members attended the fun day at Angus College to promote the club to potential members as well as it’s ToonFest event which takes place this summer.

Barrs, makers of Irn Bru and sponsors of the Scottish Football League, have a £70k prize pot up for grabs to be shared amongst the 30 SFL teams and the Red Lichties have asked for Arbroath Round Table’s help to get their share!!!

We need your empty cans!!!
When you’ve finished guzzling your ginger, DO NOT THROW AWAY THE CANS. Keep them aside and let us know here and we’ll contact you about your tinny’s for the team!!!!

Each of the 3 divisions has a prize pot of £23,333 for the taking. The team who collects the most cans in each league wins the top prize of £10k with each subsequent team getting less based on the number of cans collected.

11 pensioners were rounded up, driven to a a dark wood and given a 20 minute head start…

Of course we’re only joking, the sports were Jenga, Dominoes, Putting, Connect 4 and Carpet Bowls and Arbroath Round Table had an unbeaten 5 year run to defend.

Before the games commenced, we treated the pensioners to a slap up 3 course meal (ingredients generously donated by Barry Watt of Morrison’s Supermarket and cooked by Ian and Bev Wren) and a free limitless bar all night.

The free limitless bar was all part of ARTs strategy to win because getting 11 old boys three sheets to the wind before playing games that require good hand/eye co-ordination there was always going to be one team that retained their unbeaten run.

After the games there was a free raffle with every pensioner taking home a bag of swag from the highly desirable prize table, featuring such prizes as Tennents Super, bottles of wine, boxes of chocolates and tins of fruit cocktail!!

Chairman Ian Lorimer said

“The annual OAP games night is a highlight on our calendar of events and we always look forward to it. A great night is always had and it was actually how I first decided I would get involved in Round Table a few years ago as I had such a good time.”

The Trade are a 5 piece rock band hailing from Angus, Scotland who have been described recently by the News Of The World’s Tim Barr as a band who fire out music that is “misty-eyed ambitious stuff – inside is a world beating anthem fighting to get out”.

They have been touring extensively for the best part of 3 years up and down the country at some of Scotland’s best loved venues, putting their hearts and souls into every performance. As well as playing the best venues The Trade have also supported some fantastic acts over the years such as The Undertones, The Buzzcocks, The Stiff Little Fingers Ray Wilson & Stiltskin, The Twang, Dave Arcari, The Twilight Sad, The Xcerts, Chris Helm, Mark Morriss and The Underground Hero’s.

Arbroath Tablers are fond of their lager and this culminated in a World Taste Test between Christmas and New Year. Ten lagers from across the globe were selected for everyone to score and enjoy with the eventual winner being Chang from Thailand.

If you like lager be sure to come along to our ToonFest event on 27th and 28th July, 2012 where we will be upping the stakes and bringing you 10 lagers from the four corners of the earth during our World Lager Festival which will be held during ToonFest weekend.

The last surviving founding member of Arbroath Round Table, William Rae, was a guest of the current members at the recent Arbroath home game against East Fife.

Willie, 96, hasn’t been to a football game in well over 30 years and really enjoyed the occasion whilst getting to know two of the newest members of the club, Jamie Buchan and Martin Smith.

Willie was joined by Bob Dawson and Dave Hunter who were treated to a match day out courtesy of Arbroath Round Table and Arbroath Football Club. The men were collected from their houses and taken to the game, treated to a pie and bovril at half time and then taken home after the match.

Vice Chairman and Community Convener, Malcolm Scott says “It is an absolute pleasure to provide this hospitality to the pensioners of Arbroath. Thanks to Arbroath Football Club who provide the tickets and the members of ART who provide the time and manpower a good day out is had by all at games throughout the season.”
